„[Rufus] was educated at University College School and then entered the family business at the age of 15. In 1876–77 he served as a ship’s boy and later worked as a jobber on the stock-exchange from 1880–84. He entered the Middle Temple to study law, and was called to the Bar in 1887 and married Alice Edith Cohen** [The daughter of Albert Cohen, a merchant in the City of London.], He was appointed a QC [A Queen’s Counsel is an eminent lawyer (usually a barrister) who is appointed by the Queen to be one of „Her Majesty’s Counsel learned in the law.„] in 1898.”

„He was knighted in 1910… elevated to the peerage as Baron Reading, of Erleigh in the County of Berkshire, in 1914, and continued to rise in the peerage: he was created Viscount Reading, of Erleigh in the County of Berkshire, in 1916; Earl of Reading along with the subsidiary title of Viscount Erleigh, of Erleigh in the County of Berkshire, in 1917; and eventually Marquess of Reading in 1926. His marquessate was the highest rank in the British peerage ever achieved by a Jew.”

” involved a number of government ministers, including Lloyd George, the Chancellor of the Exchequer; Sir Rufus Isaacs [!!!], the Attorney General; Herbert Samuel, the Postmaster General; and Alexander Murray, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury. The allegations included the fact that Isaacs’ brother, Godfrey Isaacs, was managing director of the Marconi company…

The political consequences were in fact slight, but certain journalists and writers drew conclusions about corruption in British politics that resonated for 25 years.”

It is the fashion to divide recent history into Pre-War and Post-War conditions. I believe it is almost as essential to divide them into the Pre-Marconi and Post-Marconi days. It was during the agitations upon that affair that the ordinary English citizen lost his invincible ignorance; or, in ordinary language, his innocence…. I think it probable that centuries will pass before it is seen clearly and in its right perspective; and that then it will be seen as one of the turning-points in the whole history of England and the world.”  — G. K. Chesterton, The Autobiography

Morgana et consortes [„secured the single largest loan from private US banks prior to American entry into World War I in 1917″]. A na dokładkę w 1923:

„Along with his in-law Alfred Mond (father of his daughter in-law) and Herbert Samuel, Isaacs was a founding chairman of the Palestine Electric Corporation, precursor to the Israel Electric Corporation in the British Mandate of Palestine.”

English financier and communal worker; born at Amsterdam 1740; died in England 1808; son of Barent Cohen, a wealthy merchant of Amsterdam. He removed to England with his brother, and by 1778 had developed a large business in London. He was naturalizedin 1798, and became known eventually as one of the leading merchants of the city…

Cohen was twice married; and his chief claim to remembrance lies in having been the founder of the Cohen family in England. Through the distinguished marriages which his children contracted, nearly all the leading Jewish families in England are connected with him. His daughter Hannah became the wife of Nathan Mayer Rothschild, the founder of the firm in New Court; the second daughter, Judith, married Sir Moses Montefiore; the third daughter, Jessie, married Myer Davidson; and by the alliances of his other children further marriages were made with the families of Goldsmid, Samuel, and Lucas.”
